Why Swap Coffee For Tea?
By Anthony Ashard
If you're a serious coffee drinker, I've listed a few reasons why I believe you should consider changing to tea. To most Americans drinking coffee is a daily ritual, a lifelong habit if you will. According to a study done by researchers at the European Society of Cardiology, Coffee is linked to heart disease. It can cause your arteries to harden, making your heart strain and increases your blood pressure sometimes to dangerous levels. There are a number of chemicals in coffee that have been linked to heart disease and strokes. A good enough reason to switch to tea. According to research conducted by John Weisburger, Ph.D, tea was found not only to dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease, but further studies conducted by the University of Cambridge School of Medicine indicated that tea actually strengthens your bones and helps to reduce and even prevent osteoporosis. There have been other studies that indicate that tea may even help to prevent cancer, and have shown that compounds found especially in black tea actually attack the bacteria that is a common cause of cavities, gum disease and bad breath. There have also been psychological studies that indicate that coffee can reduce depression and suicidal tendencies. I normally have one cup of coffee in the morning, and drink tea and various fruit cordials for the rest of the day. I still like my cup of coffee, but have learnt not to drink coffee in excess. A recent BBC story: Tea 'healthier' drink than water Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers. Full story Tea comes from one species, there are however three key varieties: * The China – Small leaves and generally thrives at higher altitudes. * The India (or Assam) – Larger leaves and generally thrives at lower altitudes. * The Hybrid – Kind of in-between the Chinese and Indian. Source Tea is typically sold as a blend, a combinations of the main types listed above. However tea can also be flavoured with spices, fruits, oils and even scented with flower petals. Go on! the next time you're thinking of having a coffee, have a nice cup of tea instead.

Tea is the agricultural product of the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of the Camellia sinensis plant, prepared and cured by various methods. “Tea” also refers to the aromatic beverage prepared from the cured leaves by combination with hot or boiling water. Wikipedia

“'Mr. Churchill, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea!' And if you were my wife, I would drink it!” Winston Churchill quotes I wonder if it was China tea or India tea? So according to the the European Society of Cardiology, Coffee creates patients then?
I suffer from piles. Ive been told to add psyllium husk to my diet. Ive done that. I still needed something to soften stool. I was given a liquid laxative to take as well. Still touch and go but the total was little better than none at all. I've started using a cassia herbal tea. I have been able to drop the laxative and I haven't had the usual trouble. Tea seems to have its benefits if you use the right one. Reg Oh! And the anti depressant effect of coffee must be negligible, judging by the amount of coffee I was drinking and in clinical depression at the same time.
I don't drink either one, except for herbal teas which do not contain either caffeine or tannin. My favorite of thos is red bush tea (roibus) which is naturally sweet, has no calories, and has many times more anti-oxidants than even white tea. But regarding the water one must bear in mind that tea is dehydrating whereas water is hydrating, so it is not a good idea to drink tea instead of water, only in addition to it.
Hopefully, when you refer to tea you mean that it should be drunk with no additives, as sugar is stored ad fat and milk has been shown to be a cause of cancer.
I'm always amazed at the number of people, driving their cars or shopping in the grocery store, drinking a large coffee at 4 in the afternoon. How do they get the proper rest at night or get rid of that fat belly with this habit? Thank you for sharing, Anthony, nice read. Best wishes. Frederick
Despite my British heritage, I have never been fond of tea. I am a coffee addict, however. I'm heartened to have read research over the past year indicating that coffee has health benefits. Good intel, though. I do realize that tea has many healthful properties as well, especially green tea.
Gosh... I dunno. I only have one cup of coffee typically in the morning -- sometimes two. I've even heard of studies that said that coffee WAS good for you (in moderation of course). I was never able to get into tea other than iced tea.
Both for flavor and effect, I'm sticking with the coffee. While I enjoy tea occasionally it's no substitute. I don't have high blood pressure though, so it's not a problem. I'd be very annoyed if it was because it helps counteract the chronic fatigue a lot more than tea does.
I love to smell coffee, but have never liked the taste. I drink a lot of tea; black and green and drink it plain or with lemon or lime. I've read that coffee DOES have some health benefits, but there are always other studies that say it doesn't. I eat and drink what I like. If I have a snack or food that's unhealthy, I eat in moderation.
Since I am allergic to coffee, I dont have the problem of being addicted as so many of my friends do. Tea is an excellent beverage and my favorite is green tea. thanks for the post
For me it's tea.
My hubby and I changed from coffee to tea quite some time ago. I can't help but think of this quote: "If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee. Abraham Lincoln I must confess: I have a Mocha every chance I get! ;)
I have got to say, this a very interesting article. Yes, your absolulety right, American's are addictive to coffee! Where do ya think Starbucks and coffee Bean cafe's orinate from? Yes you got it right America. If your research is right into heart decease's, well I guess the medical profession have a lot to thank for. "Coffee" So, on that note, my taste buds are calling for a cuppa of Rosie-Lee "Tea" A cockny slang, for a cup of tea. Great Article Puniksem...! Ed :)
