The Blind Use Computers Too!
By Ctek Solutions of www.ctek-solutions.co.uk
I have strived to provide a website that can produce a professional team-work infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing dynamic website concept. While in it's infancy and various stages of initial developement, CTEK-Solutions underwent many overhauls to finally arrive at it's current format. Many of the new features, have been added over the last 3 months, making available a more dynamic 'live' means of communication between our staff and it's members. Keeping CTEK-Solutions FREE I recently introduced a donation feature on the site allowing visitors and returning users the option to offer both feedback and to submit donations. Remote Diagnostics service For many people in remote situations and living conditions find it almost impossible to call upon the services of a regular computer technician, for many it's completely beyond their budget. This is when the CTEK remote diagnostics service comes into its own, when considering there are so many partially sighted and totally blind people in the world who use and often rely on computers as an invaluable communications tool. Simple tasks we sighted users take for granted become frequent obstacles for someone who is unable to see the monitor. Relying upon system sounds and screen-reader software like 'Jaws' to interpret what they are interacting with. Many programmers fail to design software and websites that are 100% compatible with screen-readers, visually impaired users therefore find performing simple navigational tasks difficult if not impossible to accomplish. I hope in time to raise the level of blind user awareness in software developers and internet web-designers, helping to make computers more practical and a less frustrating experience for so many visually impaired users. Some of the key points when considering partially sighted and blind users are: Checking to see if screen reader software like 'Jaws' can navigate your page designs. Offer alternatives to flash based designs for more accessible non-flash pages. Keeping link locations and feature links as simple URL's instead of flash embedding page links. Much of a website can stay hidden to Jaws users because they simply can't access the pages. Simplifying the content on pages keeping overall text to a minimum, just enough to get your point across without flooding the user with unnecessary lengthy reading. Perhaps dedicate a small section of your site specifically designed for ease of use with screen-readers. One if not the most important inclusion is to provide a means of feedback for blind and partially sighted users so that problems can be addressed.

Contributor's Note
Close your eyes for a moment, and imagine you can't see your monitor, now try to navigate your desktop. It's hard isn't it? that's because we all too often take our sight for granted. Spare a thought for people who use computers, but cannot communicate with them in a visual capacity. computers are hard enough to understand even with sight.
