Static discharge kills components
Some types of carpets are more prone to static than others. Regular nylon carpet can generate massive amounts of static as you walk over it. Be sure to drain the static from your body by touching a doorknob or the metal portion of a grounded appliance before touching any of your electronic components or tools. Designers make the fiber in many types of commercial carpeting low-static. Consider this option if you need carpeting for your workroom. As an alternative, you can buy small remnant pieces of low-static or anti-static commercial carpeting from a carpet dealer and place a remnant in front of your workbench. |
