Security vulnerability affecting Chubb deadlocks
By Anthony Ashard
If you have Chubb deadlocks installed in the doors of your property, you are extremely vulnerable to easy access from burglars if you leave a key in the lock. It's quite surprising how many people leave they key turned in the locked position in the deadlock believing that the door is secured against entry. THIS IS NOT TRUE! If you view the below image, you can see that a small screw driver can be inserted under the key curtain and be able to rotate the curtain until the lock is unlocked if the key is left in the lock. try it, you will be shocked how easily you can unlock your door from the outside! The concept of adding a curtain to the deadlock is to hinder an intruder from inserting a lock manipulator, a device that can lift the levers of an un-curtained deadlock. I cannot stress how important it is to remove the key from any make of lock that employs this type of curtain protection.

It's a seriously overlooked security vulnerability that accounts for thousands of preventable burglaries every year! Poorly manufactured locks from China are very easy to get passed. it's only when you have had your home burgled that you take your personal and home security more seriously.
Oh my goodness! Why would anyone leave the key in their lock? You go through all of that trouble and then do that? Great warning! Thanks. Regards, Jim

Leaving the key turned in the door is a common mistake many do, especially in back doors where frequent access to garages or gardens are required.
Door dead bolts are an added security against intruders. However, if it is a key operated dead and the key is removed, where is the key should you heve a house fire at night? The dead bolt could be deadly! Just a thought. Best to you. Frederick

The recommended safest place to store a back door key is on a hook near the door, but not close enough so that a potential burglar can see it or reach it by breaking a window.
