Re-certified Hard drives good or bad?
I recently purchased a Western digital re-certified 250gb hard drive under the 'white label' branding. I was not made aware that I was buying a re-conditioned hard drive for which I placed alot of trust with some valuable data, needless to say my worst fears were realised when I powered up my computer the other morning to find that both partitions of the 250Gb drive were completely unreadable! I've posted this cautionary tale to make people aware that some less reputable sources that may attempt to sell you these drives marked up as new retail devices, check the drive label carefully before purchase. RE-WRITABLE DVD's & CD'S and flash drives are among the most stable non-volatile medium for backing up critical and important data.

Contributor's Note
NEVER PLACE FAITH IN A HARD DRIVE AS A RELIABLE DATA STORAGE DEVICE, THEY ARE PRONE TO UNEXPECTED FAILURE AND LOSS OF YOUR DATA. ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATA TO A LESS VOLATILE MEDIUM.
