Nokia N97 Camera Lens Scratch Fix
By Anthony Ashard
Nokia N97 (Flagship) handset has come under scrutiny for a number of reasons, one of which is the lens cover slider scratching the protective glass, rendering all flash illuminated images with undesirable lines and marks across your treasured snaps. I owned my Nokia N97 all of six weeks before noticing that the main camera lens slide cover had scratched the glass covering the camera lens. Needless to say this is only evident when you use your flash for night time and low light shots. I was to say the least not amused by the fact that even though I had taken great care of my Brand new Nokia, it still managed to get scratched after such a short time I took my phone back to the Nokia dealer who was happy to replace the lens cover under guarantee, but I had to find a way to prevent this from happening again. Now I can't take any credit for this idea, but had to share it with the world because it was such a simple yet affective fix for an embarrassing problem that Nokia could do nothing about except change the whole back phone casing! Watch the below video for a demonstration of the fix, but read on for my version of how I completed this easy & effective remedy. Click here to view a video description of this fix. Video by - Christian Diaz HOW I FIXED MY LENS COVER * Firstly I went to a local iPod stockist and purchased an iPod classic screen protector kit £3.95. * I cleaned my camera lens cover with the provided cleansing cloth and used a compressed air can to blow any dust out of the housing. * Cutting the screen protector film with a sharp new craft knife, forming a number of rectangles 12mm by 18mm. (Needless to say I could get at least 10 of these rectangles which means years of lens protection!) * Peeling the backing off the protector film I then placed it carefully over the top half of the lens glass, covering both the lens and flash unit. * Lastly testing the slide action of the slide cover. * That's it - Job done! I hope this fix helps you prevent premature damage to your Nokia N97 camera, in fact this fix could probably be applied to a number of camera based phones that would otherwise eventually get dirty and scratched.

Contributor's Note
I love my Nokia N97, it's a great tool for people who are active on the net but find themselves often away from their PC's. Designed for Facebook users, the phone has many great features and applications that make this phone one of the best on the market.

Excellent fix
Good advice. This is what I did on some of my camera/phone/PDA devices, as an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Thanks for the information. Simple, I guess, hindsight being 20-20.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant, and thanks for sharing!! :)
