Is your SatNav recording your every move?
I purchased a TomTom One SatNav device about a year ago, and have recently discovered that the device keeps a detailed record of every journey made and stores this data without the users knowledge of it. Nothing in the user manual, or on the device suggests that the device is constantly collecting such detailed private information, or any suggestion on how to delete such data collection. Police forensic analyst recently disclosed that most brands of satellite navigation devices are routinely storing all sorts of information about their owners' movements. It also comes as no surprise that the police are now using this collected data as part of their investigations. I believe there should be strict guidelines introduced to address the issue, the general public are not informed of this potential breech of personal data privacy. Privacy protection will soon become an important feature in satellite navigation devices as customers realise what could be happening with this collected information. Quote: 'Mobile phone companies can and do track where you are, they can triangulate your position between cells, track which cell you're entering from the cell you left and position you in most cases within a 3-5 mile radius.' Thank you for this brilliant intel. It never even occurred to me that these gadgets might be recording. On the bright side, I'm sure a number of ignorant crooks and unfaithful spouses will get nabbed thanks to this feature. It reminds me of when caller ID was first introduced. You had low-lifes kidnapping people, making the ransom request via a fixed-line phone, and getting immediately tracked down thanks to caller ID.
