Biorhythms - What are they?

By Anthony Ashard

Ever since my childhood I've always sought to understand how biorhythms predict and even influence our daily lives. From the very first day of our lives we are affected by natural rhythms of repeating cycles that regulate our daily life cycles.

There are three key cycles: Physical, Emotional and Intellectual.

1.The Physical Cycle

The Physical cycle is 23 days long and typically influences physical factors.

Biorhythms can offer suggestions of how we perform on physical aspects of our overall well-being, including strength, endurance and hand to eye co-ordination skills. Susceptibility to illness and accidents during low physical cycles. On these low days it's best to rest and take things easy.

2.The Emotional Cycle

The Emotional cycle is 28 days long and typically influences emotional states.

For example relationships, love and hate, optimism, depression are other key emotions that are affected by your biorhythms, with a high emotional cycle, optimism is boosted and on low days you're likely to feel more pessimistic. High days reflect plenty of energy and positive mental attitude, however on low days you should not worry about things that would otherwise get you all emotional and depressed.

3.The Intellectual Cycle

The Intellectual cycle is 33 days long and typically influences Intellectual factors.

Learning abilities, alertness, accuracy, problem solving are all factors influenced by our intellectual biorhythm patterns, in high periods it's a good time to attend job interviews, exams and any other exercises and mental challenges, on low days avoid trying to solve crosswords and brainteasers, they could give you a headache.

I use Biorhythm software on my mobile phone, to chart and follow it's path on a daily basis. Whether it's a pseudo effect or it really actually predicts changes in our natural biorhythms is a matter of personal belief.

Anything that can help me get through my day, and help me to balance my physical, emotional and intellectual states is a plus for me.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about Biorhythms. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important in planning your daily life.

Contributor's Note

Biorhythms are an important factor in understanding how we feel from one day to the next, and if observed correctly can help us to balance ourselves on days where our lives seem to take a downward turn, and taking advantage of the high times.

Thanks Anthony, for the information. It was a subject I didn't know anything about.

How cool is this! Thanks for smartphone app suggestion. I got one and will now follow my biorhythms.

You're welcome Pamela, I hope you find Biorhythms helpful in acquiring peace of mind, happiness and intellectual strength.

Very interesting. I see you have cycles but can a person change the cycles?

No the cycles work from your date of birth, and stay in fixed cycles as described above. The cycles repeat in regular intervals Physical 23 days - Emotional 28 - days and Intellectual 33 days but because they differ in cycle length the points at which say all three biorhythms are at peak are sporadic.

This reminds me of when someone asked Linda Goodman if she actually "believed" in Astrology and she illustrated that it was not a belief system by asking back, "Do you believe in Wednesday?" Any tool we can use to focus in on our inner selves is better than no tool, I think. Probably by now you can sort of feel where you are on the chart without having to look at it, but it is fun to have a bit of validation.
